Interview with Gene Spafford, CERIAS
08-09-2012 | Forensic Focus: Gene, can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to work at CERIAS?
Gene Spafford: My academic PhD was work in reliable operating systems. I then did a post-doc in software testing, which I viewed as a follow-on to my work in reliability. During all that time I worked part-time as a system administrator and consultant. I was interested in computer & network security, but was told that it was not an area for an academic career unless I wanted to work in formal methods or cryptography. Read more
Why Purdue’s CERIAS program has dropped out as a “Center of Academic Excellence”
12-01-2009 | In 1998 the US National Security Agency (NSA) started a special program in response to Presidential Directive 63, which stated that there was a shortage of well-trained information assurance professionals and advocated national standards in IA/IS educational programs. This program gives US universities and colleges with information assurance (IA) or information security (IS) programs recognition as “Centers of Academic Excellence (CAEs)” for meeting Committee on National Security Systems (SNSS) requirements regarding IA/IS course curriculum and library holdings.
